Warning against Destroying Doctors Morale Issued by Indian Medical Association

The Hindu Bureau    11 October 2022

On Sunday, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Palakkad cautioned people against getting carried away by partially correct and exaggerated reports about deaths of patients in hospitals.

Dr. Arun N.M., IMA district President, and Secretary Dr. Dilip Kuncheria stated that holding doctors responsible for deaths that take place in some uncontrollable circumstances during treatment can "destroy" the morale of hundreds of doctors working in healthcare.

They added that it was unfortunate that on July 4, a woman died following excessive bleeding after childbirth at Thangam Hospital.

But they further added that no doctor would do anything harmful to their patients. So, blaming the doctors squarely for any death from some unpreventable condition is unjust.
